Share your voice

At CHEO we are all Partners in Health. We’re a partnership of children, youth, families, staff, physicians and volunteers, working together and listening to each other, all with the goal of making care better.

That means we value working together on everything, from care at the bedside to decisions made in the boardroom. In the care setting, we know that families know their children and youth know themselves. We rely on you telling us what you need and what you want from CHEO, so that the improvements we make together are truly meaningful for you and your family.

Below you will find a variety of ways you can share your voice and get involved.

Families, caregivers and youth offer a fresh perspective. At CHEO youth and family advisors are partners on our projects to improve our programs, services and policies. If you would like to partner alongside others to share your perspective as a youth or parent/caregiver, we’d like to hear from you. Check out these advisory opportunities:

At CHEO we’re committed to recruiting, incorporating and retaining a diverse group of voices and perspectives. Diversity includes such things as race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation and ability, in addition to a diversity of experience with the types of care and services received at CHEO.

If you are interested in being an advisor with CHEO, but face some barriers or challenges, please email our Family Partnership Lead at partnersinhealth@cheo.on.ca. Our Family Partnership Lead will work with you to find ways to reduce or eliminate these barriers.

If you would like to share your thoughts and feedback but prefer the flexibility of receiving and responding to requests based on your availability (rather than on a specific schedule), CHEO’s Advisory Pool might be the right fit for you. The Advisory Pool consists of approximately 100 advisors who represent the voices of CHEO’s children, youth and families.

The details

  • Requests for sharing insights and providing feedback are usually sent two to four times per month.
  • Feedback is mainly requested through email and online surveys; however virtual or in-person opportunities can sometimes come up.
    • Most email surveys will take between 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
  • Requests will sometimes be for one-time input or they may be for ongoing input.
  • Members of the advisory pool typically have about one week to respond to a request.
  • Participate when it’s convenient for you – there is no set time commitment.

Am I eligible?

The answer is yes, if you:

  • Currently access care at CHEO or have accessed care in the past.
  • Are a parent or primary caregiver of a child/youth who currently accesses or has accessed care in the past.

Did you know that children, youth and families can have an active role in CHEO research – beyond consenting to participate in a study? You can help to determine the research questions to be answered, influence the study design, and much more. Visit the CHEO Research Institute’s website to find out how you can help make discoveries today for healthier kids tomorrow.

We’re always looking for story ideas to share on our website, in our printed materials, with the community, or internally with our staff. If someone at CHEO has changed your life or that of your child or youth – please let us know.
