Exceptional workplace and recognition awards

Across Canada and the world CHEO continues to be selected by local, national and international competitions showcasing employers who lead their sector in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees. CHEO is also recognized for excelling in our work delivering world-class care to children, youth and their families. Over the years, CHEO has been selected time and again as an organization that leads and innovates in the ways we support our staff and our community. These tributes are a testament to the passion and dedication of our exceptional staff, medical staff, learners and volunteers

Accreditation

In 2024, CHEO achieved the highest level possible in its accreditation process, earning exemplary status from Accreditation Canada, the independent agency that rates the quality and safety of Canadian health-care organizations.

CHEO met 2,745 of the 2,760 standards against which it was assessed – a result of 99.5%. CHEO also achieved all 30 required organizational practices in areas like safety, medication management, infection control and communication.

Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO)

In March 2023, CHEO achieved designate status a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO). CHEO'S s journey to achieve BPSO designation signifies a long-term commitment to deliver the highest standards of care to our patients and families. It has offered nurses, and other health care providers, additional tools, support, and resources to aid children and youth to live their best life.

CHEO over the last 3 years has implemented five Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs), based on current best evidence. These guidelines include Promoting asthma control in children, Assessment & management of pain. Person- and family-centered care, Promoting and supporting the initiation, exclusivity, and continuation of breastfeeding in newborns, infants and young children, and Care and maintenance to reduce vascular access complications.
