Our CHEO KidCare Pharmacy is located beside the main entrance.
What makes KidCare unique?
KidCare offers services that other community pharmacies may not:
- Kid-friendly doses
- Compounding
- Medication flavouring
- Fitting air casts, braces and other orthopedic supplies
- Note: Crutches are available through the Emergency Department
- Ordering rare medications
How long will filling a prescription take?
- Filling a prescription takes time, and we do our best to be quick!
- It’s always best to plan ahead and fill the prescription before your child is ready for discharge.
- We strive to fill new prescription in under 2 hours from the time it is received at KidCare.
- Prescription refills require 48 hours advanced notice
- Compounding prescriptions are subject to additional time (please call the KidCare Pharmacy team at 613-737-2316 for more details.)
What do we need to do to fill a prescription?
Patients or caregivers must speak to a member of the pharmacy team before the prescription can be filled. You will be required to fill out a profile if you are a new patient and provide:
- insurance information (if applicable)
- correct names
- date of birth
- desired pick-up time and who will be picking up the prescription
- contact information
- a list of any regular prescriptions
- a list of any medical conditions
When setting up your profile, will also be able to indicate if you would like the KidCare team to call you when the prescription is ready.
If applicable, your nurse will ask you about your child or youth's preferences such as flavouring or additional supplies to include, such as syringes. These will be indicated on your prescription.
Recycle your used inhalers!
CHEO now has inhaler recycling bins available in front of our KidCare Pharmacy entrance, as well as in our Respirology Clinic and Emergency Department. Help us reduce medical waste and its environmental impact by dropping off your used inhalers for recycling.
Please make sure to remove any labels with names, or hide personal information with a permanent marker, before putting your inhaler in the bin!
